It ranges in color from light pink to dark reddish brown. The one thing that is different with Mahogany than other hardwoods, is that it's specific gravity (hardness) has a wide range, which accounts for the color variation. I try to pick the heaviest and most dense pieces for my blocks, but sometimes it's just too hard to do. That is why I will mix light pieces with heavy pieces and end up with a beautiful and artistic like board.
